[meme] kudos

Two memes in a row? You betcha.

Given that it is now mid-year and that many of us seem to have been having a rough time of it lately, now seems like an excellent time for a kudos meme. Tag in character, as yourself, or even anonymously if you prefer! Just spread the love, y'all. ♥

Tag in each of your characters, then go around and respond to the others with kudos for their characters. Tell them why you love having them in game, what you enjoy about the character, praise a specific plot or thread, whatever love you have to spread. (If you'd rather just do a block comment of kudos, that's okay, too!) Share your favorite moments, tags, threads, plots, etc.

As with the nature of this meme, there is no time limit so don't feel rushed or like you 'missed it'! Tag in tonight, tomorrow, or next week and leave praise and love as you please. Just try to check back for new tag ins, tag around, and enjoy!

Your Mindy voice is so great and always has been. She's so easy to hear in every tag and comedic voices are something I really don't understand, so I am just. More in awe.

Neeewwwwwt. I miss threading with him so much! He's so fun to read because you never know what he's going to say or do!

I should definitely tag him with David. He's short gay dude who loves science and has his hands on ladybits every day. How can they not be friends?

GANSEYYYYY. I admit that my knowledge is limited but everything I've read of him is just. Ah. Falls over. Even your prose is on point. Love the posh little fuck.

Okay, can I just say that Henry is wonderful? That's far from only Jessica's opinion, it's also 100% my opinion as well. Treating ethnicity and culture with care while also juggling prose and characterization is no small feat, but you've managed that very well. You do a great job of illustrating different aspects of Henry's background and culture without relying on tropes or stereotypes, you integrate language without it seeming forced — nailing those moments when there's something that just doesn't quite translate.

On top of it all, you also really nail what it's like to be steeped in multiple cultures — beyond being Asian in a Western country, there's also this nice mixture of the Chinese and Korean parts of Henry's backgrounds; while they're not in conflict, you definitely take the time to make sure that each one of them shines, which is awesome.

Plus, all mention of culture aside, Henry's narrative is so thoughtful and insightful, and he's just an adorable kid. He's really piqued my interest into maybe picking up his canon someday soon!

TL;DR, HE'S A DELIGHT.

Precious tiny child. Writing a teenager is hard. I can't even begin to fathom what it's like to write a five year old. You do a fantastic job and don't try to make him a genius; he's just a delightful kid who had um. SOME SHIT that he went through. Love him and enjoy Pete being awkward with him.

SHE MAKES ME LAUGH. Props to you for the comedic voice, because I literally can't even. Looking forward to more with her; for SOME CRAZY reason I think she's perfect for you.

Ugh, I love him so hard sometimes I shove David out of the way and just pretend he's my husband instead. My ovaries pop whenever he's in dad mode and even now, you never cease to amaze me with his funny one-liners or on point quips/put-downs/mockery. Your own quick-wittedness shines though (not just Bryan but Hansel and Elijah too). Even now, I still have a wheee moment when I see bryanzilla - DW Comment in my inbox <3

I've seen you write Raven for a long time now and I love how she has grown as a person and as a character. She's such an interesting person with such a complex past and you navigate it beautifully; I really want her and Pete to have time eventually and will find a way to make it happen.

I just...

I cannot fucking believe how good you are at Adam. Our short test thread and what we've done on the debut astounds me. In -- what, 5 tags? -- you've made Gansey (and me) a captive audience. You have such an incredible grasp on his priorities and his sensitivities and the entire way he is with Ronan.

I've read your last tag probably 15 times. It would have been so easy to play an Adam that felt a bit of satisfaction about the place being his and not this Gansey's. What transpired was so much more dramatically generous and FUCK RIA HE'S JUST SO GOOD.

And you. Thank you for being you. I know our DM chat is sporadic, but I always enjoy it. You're so fucking brilliant and hilarious and I want to snuggle you forever. <3

I AM SO GLAD YOU WRITE HER. She's a tough kid to get right and balance the Shit She's Seen with the fact that she now lives in a Not Ruined by Ant Fungus Zombies city and it's always so perfect. I stalk threads and I am not ashamed.

I also, admittedly, am in it for the puns.

Even before coming back to game, I'd been peeking in from time to time at Ronan's threads, often because you've mentioned on Twitter that sometimes it's hard to get into the mindset for him or otherwise, and while I don't know the canon, I think that what you've really managed with Ronan is to construct this incredibly thoughtful and nuanced character that's really a delight to follow and thread with. He comes across as very human. I've always loved that you don't shy away from a character's flaws, instead you embrace them as part of the character's identity — which is, really, the most realistic thing in writing, and personally one of the things that I enjoy reading the most. This is totally the case with Ronan, where you don't try to paint every flaw as being romantic in some way — he's just got some rough edges, for better or worse, but on the whole he's a good person and he cares so deeply.

I'm selfishly really looking forward to see how his development continues, especially while around a little kid like Jack! I absolutely loved that there was a lot of anger that Ronan felt over Jack's situation, but that he stamped it down in his interactions with Jack because he wanted to put the kid first. It was a real moment where I could totally empathize with how Ronan felt. I don't know how you do it, but you definitely draw readers into the mindset of your characters gloriously well.

I haven't gotten to play off of this guy since back in the days of Kurt Hummel, but my goodness, I still follow him because you give him such life of the sort that totally drew me into the series (and had me catching up over the course of a couple of hours). He's an absolute sweetheart, you treat him with such care and you make each one of his relationships subtly different, which is such a Bitty thing because Bitty recognizes what's special in all people and honors that in his own way.

I need to throw Jessica at him ASAP, because yes. Jessica wants, Di wants.

This character is a calamity of a mess in fandom. Like, even in the books. And remember old man Zegers? Whoo. What a life.

But your Alec, to me, is THE Alec. You emulate Daddario's version so very fucking well in cadence and physicality. More than that, you don't stop at the shoulder-squared Shadowhunter thing. In Darrow, you've worked to explore his humanity and test his boundaries and that is just good storytelling.

Peter loves his Shadowhunter. Let's get them drunk so they can hug XD

And you. Trace, you're a fucking national treasure. I appreciate your patience and flexibility, your sense of humor and how generous you are as a writing partner and as a person. Anytime you want to shoot the shit, I'm here. You're fucking amazing. <3

i feel like a creeper commenting here because i haven't even had the opportunity to thread with jess again since coming back to game but like

Jess has always, always been one of my favorite characters in game. I haven't even read her canon! But her voice is so distinct, and I know you've always been phenomenal at the voices I know so I have no doubt that your voice is spot-on for this girl as well. I absolutely love reading her threads because she's got all these trains of thought, many of which come from her canon, some of which come from her new experiences in Darrow, and you weave them together in a way that's extremely organic and yet provides context at the same time. I can understand her, I'm drawn to her wit and smarts, and most of all, I feel with her. You just do a phenomenal job all around.

Jesus fucking Christ, Blue Sargent.

It's been like 6 tags and I live and breathe this girl. What I think is most interesting about Blue is how she chooses to deal with the way she feels. I feel like I've seen some interpretations of her where she's just... angry. And that's not Blue. YOUR Blue is Blue. She's dynamic and fierce and adoring, and so, so fucking good. I cannot believe how perfectly you play her.

And Faye, you're the fucking tits. Things began so odd that I wasn't sure if it would be weird when/if I got to play Gansey. You were so patient and communicative. You've proven yourself to be a person I can talk to about anything, and your empathy and support and open-mindedness is invaluable to me. I love you, you beautiful soul. I hope to get to prove it in snuggles one day.

I am gonna be real here: I love Magnus because of how much you love him. I've peeked at threads and admittedly am scared to bother you until I've got a better handle on the canon, but from the clips I've seen and the Things I Have Been Told, he is lovely, and yours is too. I'm super pumped for when I force you to write with me.

oh no here we go again, creeper redux

And Ellie! Ellie is another character I have absolutely loved to follow since the moment I first threaded with her. Watching her grapple with how drastically different Darrow is from her own world, witnessing some suspicions that she clings onto because she's seen humanity at its worst, hedging her bets, having to deal with how unjust and unfair everything is at times and seeing that fury within her, but seeing her push forward in spite of it... everything's great, Ellie's amazing. I love that she's having more of these moments where she can just be a teenager, but I love that everything's still colored with what she's experienced before, because she's a smart cookie and everything she learns is something she can use as time goes on.

NAGA HAD BETTER BE DOTING ON ELLIE LOTS

Thomassssss. Man, I totally tagged this muffin on a whim back in the day and I'm so so glad I did. I hadn't seen his canon prior to playing with him and I'm thrilled you made me change that. I love how you truly embrace how little Thomas knows about ANYTHING and how he's growing and learning at a pace that makes sense. I think it'd be so easy to play him just IMMEDIATELY learning and knowing things and you've given him the real care and attention and TIME he deserves. Bitty and I are BOTH so excited to see where he goes in the future and how much he continues to grow.

I can't pass Harley by without leaving my love for him always. I'm so happy to see that he's still in game, I'm so happy to be able to open any thread of his and immediately feel his energy. Sometimes I feel like Harley is that much more vivid to me because of the wonderful, wonderful threads I've gotten to share with him — I feel like I can picture his movements, hear his voice, and every time I open up one of your threads, that just returns in full. He's so distinct and your writing for him is so artful, I feel like you could easily pick up pen and paper and write more of his story, and it'd be every bit as beautiful as the original canon.

Ugh, my heart, Harley tugs it always.

I'm not familiar with The Girl's canon, but I'm super thrilled that you tagged Jack with her and gave me this opportunity to simply sink down into this gorgeous character that flows throughout Darrow. The way you write her is so organic that her very spirit emanates from every word. I can feel her smiles, I can feel the peace that she brings, and the appreciation of every bit that life has to offer. It makes her extraordinarily magnetic and wonderful to follow in game, and especially rewarding to thread with, so thank you for that continued opportunity. She's truly lovely.

I should hope you know by now how much I absolutely adore Kieren. I loved his canon even before you apped him and I feel like I love it even more NOW after getting a front row seat in his journey. I'm in awe of how you've played him from the start, the trajectory you threw him in and saw to the end. (Well, sort of the end. I do hope he'll be around for a long while yet.)

Even more selfishly, I'm so SO pleased by his relationship with Sirius and where it's gone over the past several months. I've never had much opportunity to have cross-canon shipping and I could not have asked for a better experience here. Kieren is just exactly the kind of personality that works with Sirius's less likable characteristics and I love that he won't easily put up with his shit. I just adore them and playing them SO MUCH. Thank you for some truly wonderful threads and experiences. <3

I didn't have the opportunity to thread much off of Spencer the last time I was in game, but I'm so glad that you decided to tag Jack with this guy. There's this wonderful thoughtfulness and consideration that Spencer has, where he takes all of these observations that he makes and somehow figures out just the right way to respond. You write him in a way where he's got a lot of cerebral strength, but he responds not only with that intelligence, but with care as well — making him a great mentor, a great friend, and someone you can totally see earning his place in his career. I've always enjoyed following his ship threads with Luke (shhh), but I'm really glad to have an easy window into other aspects of his personality now. That thread with Jack was one of my favorites, with the seriousness of Jack's situation dawning upon him, but realizing that maybe they just need a light moment and going out to get hot dogs to bring that smile back. So many feels.

Um, wow! Tolkien always strikes me as an intimidating writer to try and follow in RP, and I still to this day haven't read the full LotR series, but The Hobbit was one of my favorite books as a child and you have given so, so much more life to Kili in a way that is so achingly true to the canon, it's really phenomenal. You manage his language, you manage the nuances of his culture, you give him hopes and aspirations that leap off of the page. You give him hopefulness while still maintaining ties to where he's from. And in doing all of this, you've made it possible for me to see so much more opportunity in the canon than I originally did (no small feat).
