The Dark Side possesses a strong power of seduction. However I don't believe anyone is lost to it, if the can still see The Light. Redemption is always a possibility. The Dark Side corrupts.

I'm not going to fall to the Dark Side. I've done a lot of things though. Killed a lot of people.

[okenobi]

But not by your own untainted will, I believe.

[startarebellion]

That hardly makes them less dead. It was them or me and I chose them.

[okenobi]

Your guilt is profound and genuine. The position you were put in was difficult and unacceptable. Any one of us could be made to do the same under those circumstances. Dark forces prey on any weakness they can find. Weakness is not a failure, but a part of all of us we must learn to overcome as best we can. Unfortunately not all of us have the opportunity to be supported in that endeavor, as I suspect you did not.

No wonder the Sith killed you all. They would hate to hear you say that. Thank you though.

The Sith thrive, just like all darkness does, on anger, pain, and fear. Jedis don't loathe those traits; we seek to find the strength to bear them, and find support in our brothers and sisters. That is the overriding difference between The Dark and The Light.

Kota told me the Sith always betray each other in the end. He was right. The Sith sacrifice others for their own gain but the Jedi sacrifice themselves for the gain of others.

[okenobi]

That's the difference exactly. Being Force aware puts incredible power in our hands. Power always has the ability to corrupt, and it burdens us with the struggle to not succumb to that corruption. The Sith gladly accept that corruption while the Jedi refuse it. But the line between the two is very narrow indeed.

That's what I couldn't get over. Vader and the Emperor were only loyal to themselves.

[okenobi]

That sort of corruption is insidious. Extreme power can drive a person become blind to everything else around them, caring only about feeling more and more powerful. There is no love in their hearts anymore, only fear of losing what they've gained.

And willing to do anything to keep it.

[okenobi]

Precisely. Everything else loses its value.

This is why I refuse to believe there's no hope for you. Because you see what the darkness can do, you know guilt for what you were made to do.

[startarebellion]

I don't want the power or any of it. I just want to be left alone to make my own choices.

[okenobi]

Is that path not currently available to you?

Here it is. Back home I have one last thing to do, but I might not survive it.

Is your final task an act of redemption?

[startarebellion]

That makes it sound noble. It's just trying to fix a mistake.

[okenobi]

Does that mean it’s a self serving mission?

[startarebellion]

I got some of people kidnapped by Vader and the Emperor. I need to go rescue them.

[okenobi]

Not so selfish, then. I would still call that a bit of redemption, even if you only see it as a remedied mistake.

I don't think it makes up for much of what I've done and I have a feeling I won't be around to do any further redeeming.

[okenobi]

You’re doing what you can. It’s admirable, as is the fact that you’ve managed to escape from a dark path. I hope you’ll fare better than you expect you will.
