MEME: Reverse Questions

Muns: Post here listing all of the characters you play (you might want to list journals, too, just for reference) or are thinking of playing.

Everyone: Ask the MUNS anything about the GAME or THEIR PUPS, because we all know the muns will answer when the characters won't. They can be specific questions ("How does he feel about her?") or general questions ("Why did you choose this pup?", "How do you channel them?", etc.) You can even have pups ask the questions, but ANSWERS are coming from the MUNS.

For the last time we did this one, check out the tag.

First of all: what gives u the right.

How do you think Fenris would react to the Iron Bull?

What's the likelihood that Krem would assist Bull in constructing a larger trebuchet so they can fling larger flying nug plushies?

How would Kavinsky and Krem react if Poison had a complete paranoid break?

How long do you think Agron and Gannicus can go before having an actual physical fight?

Is there anything in Darrow you think Billy would take a while to get used to? Or anything he'd resist getting used to?

1) Fenris would be confused, largely. He's originally from Seheron, and has some experience there...that whole bag of cats. Ultimately, I think they'd get along pretty well. And Bull could help Fenris with his Qunlat.

2) Small. Krem likes his scale trebuchet namely because he can bring it places with him and modify it to be a catapult.

3a) Kavinsky would not handle that well at ALL, because his own paranoia is a little too perpetually present. He'd separate himself from the situation and hope it wasn't socially contagious.
3b) Krem would do his best to resettle Poison as best he could. He's probably got a fair amount of experience doing affirmation with himself, and with the other Chargers, and with Bull, so he's got practice with PTSD/stress/anxiety causing breakdowns.

4) Hey man, they never actually fight in canon. I'm sure they'll manage a while.

5) Personal hygiene standards are the thing he'll take the longest to get used to, but he'll manage. He'll probably avoid cars as much as possible. And the internet.

When you apped Kavinsky, did you ever expect him to be where he's at now? Did you have an initial long term plan for him that got scrapped or just rearranged?

Is there something specifically about Maggie Stiefvater characters that really draw you in?
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-08 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
OH MAN NOT AT ALL. When I was planning on Kavinsky and working through his app, I kept pitching to Ria all the terrible things he could do, all this dream fuckery he was going to get up to, how he was going to stalk/antagonize Adam and Ronan especially. And he did some of that at the beginning.

Him meeting Newt was, by far, one of the best things for the evolution of his character in Darrow. I'd always been aware that a lot of Kavinsky's trauma that he deals with through these violent self expressions had to do with the fact that he is expected to perform in a very particular capacity. Nobody's calling him out on his behavior, nobody believes that he can be anything but an awful monster, and he's internalized so much of that that he's turned into that. So the first few months of his time in Darrow were, definitely, a struggle in reversing that behavior. And he still lapses into that boy from time to time--but now there are people that hold him accountable to the fact that he CAN act like a civilized person, that he doesn't HAVE to put up this fire-and-brimstone persona, that he's NOT a monster.

I also feel like that partially answers the Stiefvater question too? She's created such wonderful, vivid worlds and these people that inhabit them. That was one of the issues I had when I was playing Peter from Divergent--he's a villain specifically just to be a villain; there's no motivation, no understanding, no drive to what he does except to act as antagonist to Tris. Meanwhile, in Stiefvaterland, you have people like Kavinsky and Henry: both foils to our main characters, but they serve vastly different capacities in their contrast to, respectively, Ronan and Gansey, and by extension the rest of the group. They have motivations for their actions, they have clearly fleshed out lives (even if Blue and the boys don't know all about it), they have drives and wants and desires. Sean has those too, though he's definitely still figuring those out even to the end of Scorpio Races.

...AND THAT'S MY FEELS NOVEL.

How is Sean adjusting to life in Darrow? What would you like to see happen to him to shake him up? Would you want to shake him up?
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-08 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sean is...adjusting. He's happy to be here with Puck, with Corr and Dove, and he enjoys working at a stable. But this isn't Thisby, and he misses it terribly. Even though we're past the season for the Scorpio Races, Sean really doesn't know what to do with himself without them, he's finding.

As far as shake ups go, Ria and I might have ideas on shaking up him and Puck but, mostly, that's just in them figuring out their relationship right now.

If you could take Krem from another point in his canon, what would it be?
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-08 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? I don't know if there's another point that works nearly as well as Demands of the Qun. It's such a clear-cut event that nearly everyone who plays through the game goes through, whether for the Alliance or for the Chargers.

Maybe I'd take him from a version where the Chargers are saved? Maybe I'd take him from Trespasser, when we know that everyone is safe and as relatively happy as they can be? But I'm just...so, so pleased with the point and scenario I pulled Krem from, I can't really imagine any other way to do it?

If your characters were in a dæmonverse AU, what do you think their assorted dæmons would be?
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-08 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
OKAY. OKAY. HERE WE GO.

Krem: Krem has his ghost cat in Darrow (from Noah), but I think he'd have something a little bit more like a fox or a jackal if he had a daemon. They're sort of mid-tier predators, definitely aggressive and smart enough to make their way through the world, but often subject to the whims of thos around them.

Kavinsky: I've had him make the joke in game that he'd be a dragon, but honestly, Kavinsky's would probably be a dog. His resilience but needful interdependence reminds me of a lot of the dogs that I've had throughout my life--this constant need and want to be part of a unit, acting out when left untrained. I think that he and a dog would balance each other out.

Henry: RoboBee a dolphin or whale. The problem with the dolphin is that they're actually pretty hyperaggressive in the wild, and Henry is so not aggressive that it's sort of funny, so probably a whale of some variety. There is a double irony here in that I headcanon that Henry can't swim.

Sean: Corr. No, but seriously. This isn't even an AU, like that's pretty much a key component to The Scorpio Races is that Sean and Corr have such an unbelievable rapport that people say that Sean has "one foot in the land, and one foot in the sea". These two are each other's other half. It's magical. Like, literally.

Agron: A ram. Agron is feisty and bullheaded and aggressive, but around the people he cares about the most, he's a bit of a flirtatious doll. I've grown up around sheep for most of my life, and so it's easy for me to see the parallels between some of our better behaved rams, and Agron on his better behaved days as well.

Inej: A mourning dove. This is maybe a sort of weird one, especially given that she's called "the spider" so often, but mourning doves are these lovely little creatures, and I feel like she would mesh well with a bird--not wanting to be caged, and all that.

Billy: I want to say something ~elegant looking~ that can still fuck you up, like a swan? But if I'm being serious, he'd probably have a koala. Guy's stoned for easily 50% of the movie, and is constantly dismissively belligerent.

Frank: A standard house cat. No particular breed or anything, just your regular ol' tabby cat or something. Cats are, inherently, a bit more solitary and standoffish than dogs are, but they are ruthlessly dedicated to their own ideas, and to the people that care for them. Frank himself leans more toward a feral cat--mistrustful of others, independent, angry with the world.

Fenris: honeybadger
... no, I take that back, a honebadger.

AAAAHHH THESE ARE GREAT!

FOLLOW-UP because it's relevant to my interests/characters: do you think Sean's connection with Corr could be interpreted as a specified version of wild magic?
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-08 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hoooooo boy.

Okay, so one of the most telling lines in the book is one of the older townsmen telling Puck that Sean has "one foot in the sea", and one of the other characters (George Holly, an American) telling Sean "All I know is that when I whisper to dirt, my conversations are less than meaningful."

Sean has some magic, but so does all of Thisby, and so does, theoretically, everyone on Thisby. Some quality of the island itself, the rituals and superstitions that are at work, allows most everyone to perform ritualistic practices. That's how they are, largely, able to work with the capaill during late October and early November.

Of note, though, is the fact that Sean TRAINS capaill. In the nine years that he's been doing this--and for the year or so before he was orphaned--he had such a deep connection with the capaill that he was around that he was able, as a ten year old, to convince Corr to not hurt his father. And that conviction and trust between him and Corr was what led Corr to returning to the sea for three years.

Sean is the one that people ask to gauge the worthiness of a capall for the races, he's the one that trains Benjamin Malvern's capaill for the races, he's the one that is asked to return a fellow racer's capall to the sea. He can speak to Corr in the language that Corr uses, those clicks and whines and other not-quite-horse noises, and Corr understands him.

Sean also has some obvious skills and understanding with regular horses, though that appears more to do with just being around them since he was ten, rather than any inherent magical ability. He's one of the principal trainers at the Yards, and he's the one that the new trainers and grooms turn to when there's a troublesome horse. He trains almost every horse, he helps with their sale because he knows all of them--but all of that is just mundane, being around them all day from their births, sort of stuff.

The exact nature of Sean's magic isn't ever really explained. It's obvious he has something. But how much of that is just Thisby and how much of that is just Sean is hard to tell.

What would Fenris like the most/least about Darrow?

What sort of catalyst would make Kavinsky snap (not entirely, I mean: feel the need to be violently reckless/defensive)? Any plans to fuck with him or is he happy with his various boys and his house?

What's the biggest way in which Krem has changed since getting here?

Has Henry ever actually mentioned that he's interested in girls around Blue? I feel like I keep playing her as though she's not exactly sure. Because teenagers are deeply stupid.

1a) Fenris is going to enjoy the wider variety of alcohol, not being anywhere near Tevinter, not being near Kirkwall, and having a monthly stipend that he can blow however he wants, nobody can stop him.
1b) Fenris is going to dislike the fact that there are two 'Vints (one of whom is a baby-Magister) here, that there is magic/mages fucking E V E R Y W H E R E, and that Hawke isn't around for him to scowl out.

2) HAHAHA FUNNY U SHOULD MENTION Kavinsky is not handling Al's disappearance particularly well. While he hasn't snapped yet, it's a near thing, and he's largely holding himself together for Newt's sake. This is going to play out with some vehicular mayhem, some inappropriate conduct, and an excessive amount of drug and alcohol abuse until someone or something stops him.

3) I'd say the biggest way that Krem's changed is in letting himself be sexual. He's spent years ignoring or repressing his sexuality because he wanted people to respect and accept that he was a man, and a mercenary, and that he was capable of controlling his life. That didn't allow for a whole lot of time messing around. In Darrow, everyone's been so...good about the whole thing that he can explore a bit more.

4) Ya know, I don't know if he has? He's told Adam and Noah, though, and probably just assumes that Blue knows because........well, especially because Noah.

Aw man this makes me wish you had brought Fenris in before Grantaire started making a real stab at getting sober because they would totally get drunk and talk shit about humanity/governmental systems and bet on card games. Of all of mine R probably would survive Thedas with the least drastic change.

(Blue around Fenris would be...huh. Dangerous?)

Aw Al :( I mean I've sort of missed the vehicular mayhem and K's dark side? Because I'm a terrible human! But that's a sad catalyst.

Heading into work so the next two are fragments:

Krem<33 and Ahaha I am going to continue to have her deeply not get it (or rather, keep going 'huh'...) for a bit because it amuses me. Inappropriate crush is not only inappropriate it's stupid....or is it.

What is the most profound deviation from canon that Henry has experienced as a result of being in Darrow? also will he ever get a proper robobee in the city
hickorysleeve: (Default)

[personal profile] hickorysleeve 2016-11-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Henry hasn't really been in Darrow long enough to have a deviation from canon, I feel like. Unlike Kavinsky--who came from a high point and things just came turning up roses--Henry came from a point of uncertainty and has been continuously trying to find his groove, much in the same way that he was in the books.

Plans are in discussion for RoboBee, though if some don't work out, I may item it to him at some point.
