I bite my lip, which is a trick Grandma uses when she doesn't want to say something too fast.

I... want to be with Ma, and Ma isn't here. But even if I go home, I might not get to be with Ma, because they're keeping her at the hospital. Maybe if I could choose where to be every day, that would be best.

But here isn't so bad sometimes. And there's a chance your Ma might show up. When I got here, I was alone just like you. I didn't know anyone. But after awhile people I knew from home came here too, one by one.

But are there good doctors here? Ma... Ma needs doctors and a hospital.

I breathe in, and it's all shaky, like the kind when you're about to cry. I rub at my eyes and try to stop it. I need my Strong.

I don't know if... if World is better for Ma, or Darrow. She doesn't like to be trapped. I think when she's trapped, she, she breaks more. And becomes not like Ma.
