Of course it sounds mad. It's 1980. Lily's due any day. You know that.

For me it was 1982. It's a long story, really. I'm just very glad to see you. And I suspect Sirius will be even more so.

Peter gives you up, you and Lily. Neither of you survive, but Harry does. Peter makes it look like Sirius was the one who did it, fakes his own death, and Sirius gets sent to Azkaban for all of it.

Harry survives. The curse rebounds off him and we thought, until Sirius corrected me today, that You Know Who had been killed.

Then what was the point? I've got to get back Remus. I have to move Lily. We'll go somewhere else. Somewhere better. I'll find Peter and wring his neck and-

But who'll raise Harry? If Sirius is gone, there's only you, Remus. Believe me, Lily's family are horrid.

They won’t let me raise Harry. I tried, James, believe me. Dumbledore said it had to be a blood relative. Some kind of extreme protection magic.

No. That's bollocks. I'm dead, Sirius is in Azkaban, you're not allowed to raise my son and so he's with Lily's awful muggle sister?

Next you'll tell me Snivellus made it through without a scratch.

He turned double agent, actually. He’s been helping the ministry round up Death Eaters. Also apparently Peter is still alive, hiding out as Wormtail. Though I only just learned that today.
