[Alec thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. He'd gotten Isabelle, he'd gotten Magnus but Jace hadn't appeared. Alec had almost resigned himself to the fact that if he saw Jace again, it wouldn't be for a very long time. Yet here Jace was, standing there, a mixture of concern and confusion on his face.

For the first time in months, he feels something coming from his parabatai rune.]

Jace! By the Angel, are you really here? Is that really you? About time.

[notastray]

[Hears Alec's voice and can feel the familiar feeling in his parabatai rune that lets him know he's there.]

Alec. Of course it's me; what, were you expecting someone else? But what's going on, where are we?

[deflectere]

[Alec hadn't been expecting anyone if he was honest. He hadn't given up hope but he'd let it dim so he didn't end up disappointed every single day.]

I wasn't expecting anything. We're in a place called Darrow. Don't ask me how, don't ask me where because I don't know.

[And he hated that.]

It's just some city. I was drowning in the East River when I ended up here. It doesn't make sense. This place is impossible.

[notastray]

Aw, c'mon Alec. Shouldn't we know by now that nothing's impossible? Just...probably very unlikely.

[Just takes a second to take it in.]

Anyone else? Izzy? Max?

[deflectere]

Very unlikely's enough for me. I don't like surprises.

[And that's all this place was, one surprise after another.]

Iz is here, yeah. Luke Garroway. Magnus. Me. That's it from home.

[notastray]

Yeah, I know. [Chuckles, just a little, even if this doesn't really seem like the time to be laughing.]

Luke's here? But no Pack, no - no Clary?

[deflectere]

No Pack, no Clary.

[It's hard to hide the relief in his voice at that.]

No Clave, no nothing. This place is not Manhattan.

Isabelle misses you. Luke'll probably be happy to see you. Magnus...will hopefully behave.

[Jace gives Alec just a bit of a look for that tone of voice.]

No Clary's mundie friend. I'm sure Isabelle's pouting about that.

[No Clave is a blessing and a curse. He knows what it means to all of them. But seeing what it was turning into back in New York - and it also means there's no Valentine here, either.]

Well, if Magnus will behave, I suppose I can too right?

[deflectere]

[Alec holds Jace's gaze, refusing to look away or apologize. Alec's not sure what time's he coming from but even after their first meeting there had been no love lost between he and Clary.]

There are plenty of other Downworlders and mundanes here to keep her interest. Last time I talked to her about this, she had her eyes on a werewolf.

[Jace behaving almost made him laugh. Almost.]

You think you can behave? I'll believe it when I see it.

[notastray]

[Jace holds the stare back, refusing to budge as well. It doesn't last long.]

Oh, she's moved on to werewolves now? That's a new one, even for her.

[Looks Alec over, almost carefully, before reaching his hand out for him.]

We're okay, right? Even if we're in this...weird mundie city?

[deflectere]

We're okay.

[Alec's back to looking at him, eyes narrowed and brow furrowed.]

Why wouldn't we be? What's been going on that you have to ask that?

[notastray]

Just... I just wanted to make sure.

[There's still been so much conflict and tension, about Clary especially. Jace is just trying to do what he thinks is right too.]

We're parabatai. We'll always be okay.
