Lila pulls the mask off her head completely, her hair fluttering a moment in its wake. Her smirk disappears and her hand falls to her side at Kell's reply. She looks him over, as though something about the sight of him will explain what he's saying.

"What do you mean?" she asks slowly. She takes in the pinched quality of his frown, how his eyes look away from hers. "What does it matter if you can't go to Grey or White London?"

Usually people have to teach me what something is in World. It makes me feel proud to explain to someone else.

A phone is... a machine people use to talk to each other and do other useful things. It can send voices really, really far away. Grandma sometimes tells her phone what to do, and the voice of her phone is called Siri.

I stop and press my mouth shut. Maybe this isn't the right Siri — she doesn't talk the same way. Leo told me there are other boys in the world named Jack who aren't me. It's confusing sometimes.
