I dare not think it optimism so much as a practical evaluation of the world around us. I would say you cannot grasp the magnitude of what such advancements mean to my work, but you know a great deal, Miss Ives. I wouldn't presume to imagine you without awareness.

You flatter me, doctor, and force me to admit that the misery at our predicament may be purely my own. I can not deny this place hold wonders beyond imagining, however I do not believe there is anything in your science that can bring my true friend back to me.

Yes. My Mina. Though I appreciate your attempts at comfort, doctor, there will be no absolution for me so long as she is beyond my reach. Still, there is no need for us to dwell on such things when we have a whole new world to explore. Where do you think you will begin?

There is much to explore, I'm sure, but I suppose my mind will be torn between the ephemeral and the scientific. After all, who knows how much more poetry has been written in the blink of an eye?

You delight me, doctor, as always. It lifts my spirits to know circumstance has not dampened your desire to explore the fullness of what life has to offer. I believe I would do well to look to you as an example and not allow myself to take this opportunity we've been offered for granted.
