meme: reverse questions

HOW ABOUT A FRIDAY NIGHT MEME?

Muns: Post here listing all of the characters you play (you might want to list journals, too, just for reference) or are thinking of playing.

Everyone: Ask the MUNS anything about the GAME or THEIR PUPS, because we all know the muns will answer when the characters won't. They can be specific questions ("How does he feel about her?") or general questions ("Why did you choose this pup?", "How do you channel them?", etc.) You can even have pups ask the questions, but ANSWERS are coming from the MUNS.

Curious and actual question, what pushed you to bring Elle from the musical and not the movie?

Less thinky-think question, if your characters were in the Hunger Games, who'd win.

The movie is one of my all-time favorite films and Elle Woods has been one of my personal heroes since it came out. But in a lot of ways, I think the musical is just a better version of the story. Elle is actually a slightly more complex heroine, I feel we get a little more of who she is, even, and I like the changes to the story, especially to Emmett. And not just that Emmett is actually a person in the musical, rather than a nice hot guy who's sort of just there like in the movie (sorry, Luke Wilson!), though it helps a lot and makes the romance less tacked on. I feel like the role he plays in Elle's story in the musical, helping her to study, pushing her to unleash different aspects of her personality, is a big part of what brings out a more dynamic Elle.

Eden. Elsa's not at all inclined to kill, but she would do it if it meant getting home to Anna, and the others wouldn't stand a chance against her, but Eden's learned from her old mistakes and she'll do anything to stay alive.

You've been playing a few of your characters (Eden and Vee, particularly) for a very long time--what are the best things you've learned over the years, about them or about yourself?

I learned a lot about writing from both of them. With Eden, I've learned how to write a complex character who is highly adaptable. She shifts depending on who she's talking to, and it's easy to feel like that's somehow a copout, but it's how people are, and she's helped me learn how to do that while maintaining a consistent base for who she really is under it. I've also gotten to cover a wide variety of serious topics with her that I'm proud of, and I think she's one of my best achievements as far as extrapolation goes. She has very little actual canon, but after seven years, I still feels she's completely true to all of it while still being fully realized and not held back by how little screentime she had.

With Veronica, I've learned to trust my instincts. I know her inside out, to the point that, when I dropped her at TR, it was in part because she was stifled and in part because I felt she'd just gotten so far from canon. But when the movie opens, who Veronica is is actually very much the girl I was playing at the end of her time in TR, because of the changes in her life, being out of Neptune. I took her so far away that I brought her full circle, and it was trusting my instincts that let me complete the trajectory. I also learned a lot from playing her about using more physical language to communicate emotion. I'm a bit more lax with older Veronica, but I had a strict policy during her time in TR wherein I did not allow myself to use the word "feel" except in sarcastic dialogue. I no longer remember the exact quote, but Rob Thomas once said something about never using it with her because that's just not who she is. I took it a step further and kept it out of her narrative for a solid five years, and it taught me so much about showing rather than telling.

Do you ever want to start over with any of yours, from a different canon point, or to see how it goes?

What is the best things about Harley? (I have a love of him, and I don't know anything about his canon. I just enjoy so much how you play him)
frozenfractals: (positive) interest (may these memories break our fall)

[personal profile] frozenfractals 2014-07-13 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I did that once with Meredith, back at the beginning, because I made a terrible judgment call with her the first go round. I sometimes wonder about Alana, just because it was a canon point chosen for sheer convenience, but I don't think I really could have brought her from any other point without complicated Hannibal's presence in Darrow too much. Other than that, no. They all feel pretty right, and I love so much the progress I've made with all of them.

Thank you! His canon is an incredibly difficult one, but I fell in love with his voice immediately. Tawni O'Dell is such a phenomenally talented writer and he's so vividly written. And that's what I love best, is that very specific voice. It can be intimidating, but there's something very raw about Harley. He's extremely volatile and emotional but also close to the chest. He deceives himself. He hides things from himself. And I love playing with that, the unreliable narrator aspect and the violence in his mind and his self-loathing and repressed trauma. Which sounds horrible, but it's just a lot of to work with. He's so fascinating and sad, and I enjoy that. I've never played someone even remotely like him. But at the same time as being interested in what his traumatic past means for how I play him, I'm also loving getting to remove him from that and letting him slowly, slowly learn how to be more comfortable with who he really is in his heart.

What aspect of modern life does Elsa find the most pleasantly surprising?

Cell phones! She still doesn't understand how they work exactly, but she's charmed by being able to communicate with Anna so easily and receiving all these messages from her sister with the funny little pictures in them, and being able to take photos, which she finds mind-blowing and exciting. She likes the internet and the vast amount of knowledge and also kittens on it. She likes how perfectly normal it is for women to go to university and she'd like to go one day. But yeah, she's super excited about cell phones.

What would Elsa do if Anna got a significant other?
frozenfractals: (negative) (there's been a lot of talk of love)

[personal profile] frozenfractals 2014-07-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Watch him very, very closely. Though she didn't get much time to know him before arriving, Elsa liked Kristoff and she doesn't fault Anna for being charmed by Hans. Hans was very convincing. But she's a big sister through and through, and she worries. She doesn't want anyone hurting her sister ever again, so... yes. She'd be cautiously happy for Anna, and watch this new person like a hawk.

Do you think seeing other super powered people in the city is further helping Elsa feel comfortable in her own skin?
frozenfractals: (positive) (it might help you through the nighttime)

[personal profile] frozenfractals 2014-07-13 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Zuko's fire and, obviously, Jack's ice were both huge for her, seeing firsthand that people can do things similar to her. But also enormously instrumental in her coping and self-acceptance has been Jessica, who told her about the X-Men and how superheroes are sometimes lauded in her world and even put on magazines and posters, and that idea of a world where people, even if not all of them, celebrate people like her was seriously an epiphany. And then the most recent thread I linked where her powers came back while she and Jess wound up fighting a fire has really helped turn her around. Finding there's a way she can help people with her abilities and that this is a thing people just do makes her so much more at ease, like she's finally found a purpose other than ruling Arendelle.

Whaaaaat would Veronica do if Mathias were to show up again?

Is Harley over what happened between him and Kate?

Has Grace more or less adjusted to being in a different time period or do you see her continuing to struggle with how some things have changed?

Oh god, I have no idea. Be upset even though she was the one who vanished. Be upset because she was the one who vanished. And because she's with Logan and she loves Logan and she waited so long to have him back, even though she didn't consciously know she was waiting, but she loves Mathias too and always will. Lots of upset.

Yes, mostly. There's still a bit of him frustrated by the whole thing, partly because he feels he made an idiot of himself and partly because... a lot happened in his head without happening on the surface that night, and that not-quite-put-together feeling makes him uneasy and a little sick. But he's also mostly repressed it, so it's all good.

Both! There are still some things she really doesn't get, and she's not a fan of most modern fashion, actually. Like, she likes the stuff they print in magazines, but the basic day to day stuff largely bores her. She doesn't like having to watch her mouth when it comes to various slang phrases and attitudes, and she still has trouble with not being able to smoke wherever she wants. But she was also very much not... well, she was and is a woman of her time, which is fun for me to write, but she was also a single woman in a big city who never quite fit the mold she was expected to pour into, and in many ways, modern times suit her much better because no one bats an eye at her behavior. She's adjusted to a lot, especially, unfortunately, the fact that women can have their own credit cards now. And sexting.

If given the choice, which of your pups would go home and which would stay in Darrow - and why?
