I was not withholding. I was tabling the discussion for a more appropriate time in the near future, when we were alone and I had considered well what I needed to say.

His last words are the equivalent of salt in a fresh wound, and Uhura has no plans of tolerating them. But reacting in the way that she'd like would go back on her promise earlier not to strike Spock, and she doesn't want to give anyone the satisfaction of witnessing her demanding attitude.

If there comes a point when she can be a good contributor to whatever research she's sure they're conducting, she'll offer her service. Until then, she turns on her heel to leave, biting her lip against the uncomfortable warmth in her eyes.
