I was just talking about the mystery that is playing Camilla Hect and trying to pin her down using split-model attraction theory. It's hard!

And lol, I doubt anyone's even reading this meme anymore, so I'm going to ramble about that for a minute. It's partially difficult because my own understanding of whether or not something is romantic attraction is muddy and my own attractions are frankly nebulous on that point, so trying to define someone else's is -- well, sometimes it's VERY easy, because the character is not like me in that way, but when they're at all similar it's extremely difficult.

Cam isn't sex-repulsed (at all!), and she does experience sexual attraction, but from having poked at her a bit, I am fairly sure she doesn't really experience sexual DESIRE in the same way allosexuals do. There are people who she thinks are attractive aesthetically, and many of those people she would absolutely have sex with for fun, or because it feels good; but it's not something she feels inclined to seek out necessarily.

Then there are people she has love relationships with, or at least emotionally caring relationships with. They might also fall into the category of people she would have sex with for fun/to feel good/etc, but it's not a stronger desire because she loves them (she doesn't feel demisexual to me, particularly, or at least not WHOLLY demisexual, although I do think where-ever she is on the romantic spectrum, she would ABSOLUTELY require an emotional and intellectual relationship with someone to even start thinking about anything anyone would term romantic) and again, she might have fun having sex but probably wouldn't find herself fantasizing about it.

Here's where it gets very specific: I think there is another level to her sexual attraction where she would like to have sex with someone she was emotionally close to not necessarily because it felt good, or with the goal of getting off, but because of the emotional-physical exchange, the give-and-take of it, and the specific vulnerability that it offers which is a thing she doesn't allow most people to see. That -- hypothetical desire to be vulnerable in a way that she's not with anyone else is extremely specific. It doesn't just relate to sex; there are lots of things in a relationship that could be that intimate, which is why that desire might not even affect sexual attraction. In a close enough relationship, that's a thing she finds compelling (though wouldn't know it if you asked her, IC).

The kind of way she ends up connecting to people she gets close to also makes her interest hard to define. She and Palamedes' connection and devotion and wants and interactions are -- pretty hard to differentiate from a romantic relationship except by consensus and/or physical interaction only. It's very queerplatonic in a lot of ways. And she doesn't let people in especially easily -- she's very selective, and she's used to being wholly devoted to Palamedes -- but when someone does work their way into her thoughts, they linger. It's just that she doesn't necessarily want holding hands and flowers or sweet things out of it. She wants very much to have people in her life who she keeps in her life and to always be able to protect them and make their lives easier, and to be valued by them. And new people can definitely trigger that intense want to be thought about and thought well of and appreciated, even catch her off her guard and fluster her. It's just a sort of different endgame. I don't think she'd necessarily find special value in exclusivity, for that matter, although that tangles up with things like loyalty and love. But I think Cam knows that's a thing that's proven, not declared.

Anyway, all this to say that I've been thinking about it lately, and what kinds of things she might like, and what she might not, and it's a bigger topic than I realized.

But who qualifies among those different categories? Some thoughts:


Well, obviously. One flesh, one end. There is very little she would not put in Palamedes' hands. Their relationship is not definable by words like "platonic" or "romantic" to Camilla, whatever others might speculate: what they are to each other just is. He's not really a crush, he's the axis on which the rest of her life rotates -- and just as certain to her as a magnetic pole to a compass -- but she's always thinking about him, so maybe it counts.


Not in any real way -- not only is he taken, he has a child! -- but, as previously described, he's one of the ones who Cam finds herself wanting to think well of her, and likewise, to make sure is protected. This is mostly an intellectual crush, although he's not hard to look at.


WHY ARE CHAOTIC, INTELLIGENT, POSSIBLY INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS BLONDES ALWAYS FLIRTING WITH HER? She likes it a little bit this time, partly because they're both just having fun and partly because she doesn't GET Lup yet and PUZZLES ARE GREAT.



Bucky has caught her eye in an appreciative aesthetic manner -- also interested in his life and talking, too, he seems like he has a lot of story to him, but she would absolutely have (judging them, extremely athletic) sex with him on a night they both couldn't get to sleep, feel better afterward, and have literally zero romantic feelings about any of it.




The camaraderie crush is a real thing. Also she's just very generous and doesn't mind explaining everything about -- plants, or whatever the topic is -- to Cam. It's definitely a protective friend-crush, like "I know this person could absolutely protect herself, which is half why I like her, but I also want her to be safe and happy".

I think that's it? Cam is a little cagey, she hasn't even MET that many people.
