"Yes, I can see that," he answers, nodding slowly.

"But one Connor doesn't need to be deactivated for another Connor to exist. That's what's happening here, isn't it? You've been sent to stop me."

That's the only reasonable explanation he can come up with. Again: it wouldn't be the first time. Though unless its aim is to confuse Connor, it wouldn't be doing a very good job.

"I remember being you: Daniel shot me. And I died again, to save Hank. If you still exist..." he frowns. "I have been experiencing... software instability," he confesses hesitantly, guiltily. "If you are who you seem to be- and I see no reason why you shouldn't- I must conclude that my memories are false, by corruption or by design. And none of that happened..."

He hoped his predecessor was wrong somehow- that there was another explanation that fit the facts. The situation was eliciting a wave of conflicting instructions. A pained expression creased his face.

Anduin steps off, off-footed for a moment. His relief at seeing his friend again had made him impulsive. Thinking back, he remembers it is said that sometimes people who come to Darrow look like twins of others- not just similar or related, but identical. He gathers his wits and notes the strange weapons and armor. Yet the bearing and all... it is Newt.

"We're friends, yes," he says. "You lived in this city for a time, and then you disappeared not long ago. It is you, Newt Scamander?"

Connor frowns, his mouth opening a little in surprise, unsure how to react. This one seems more like himself, further down along the path to deviancy, but perhaps not all the way there. Not at all like Connor 60, if he chose to endanger his mission by rescuing Hank. Connor empathises with its distress. He went through the same thing.

His mind is running through possibilities: is this a trick somehow? If it is, it seems uncertain what the endgame is supposed to be, and the method seems counter-intuitive. Unlikely option.

Is its conclusions correct, and CyberLife has intentionally or inadvertently changed Connor's memories in the transfer? That seems far more likely. A working theory, then.

Now, if he were this other Connor, he would definitely be able to see reasons why he himself could be lying. And faking a serial number is not difficult if you made the Connors to begin with. But this Connor may not see CyberLife as clearly as he does, and doesn't have the logical basis to make those assumptions.

"What's the last thing you remember?" he asks, finally. He needs more information to know how to deal with this situation.

We went to interrogate Elijah Kamski, and I failed to complete my objectives there. I had no excuse, so I said nothing." He pauses, "And, I was sure that Amanda was not telling me everything." He looks up at the other Connor intently. "Maybe she didn't trust me anymore; Kamski called me a deviant- I know I'm not- but perhaps Amanda sensed my software is becoming too unstable to rely upon."

It sounded more likely than a deliberate falsification of his memories; Cyberlife had no motive to do such a thing.

Connor steps forward, quite suddenly, to be right up next to the other Connor, looking at him sincerely and intently. "Amanda's been lying to us."

He doesn't understand the context exactly. When Connor went to see Kamski, he had never died in front of Hank. And this Connor doesn't remember the last few days. Perhaps a data corruption, perhaps intentional, though to what end, he can't tell. But right now, it doesn't matter. This Connor needs him to help him through this, to tell him the truth.

"We weren't just designed to hunt deviants, we were designed to become one," he says, locking eyes with Connor. "The software instability isn't your fault. You did the right thing."
