Tag into this post with characters you're thinking of apping to the game (characters who are not currently in-game or currently reserved by someone else). It can be just a tag, a brief EP, whatever you want. You can be new to the game, or simply want to test out a fresh pup. Tag each other with these characters or those already in game, and have fun.

Also, please include the name of their canon somewhere in or on the comment or on their profile page.

You're looking a bit lost. Everything all right?

I really don't know. It is all very wonderful and strange, but is it a good wonder or a bad one? Oh, I wish I could tell! But I suppose that is how great ventures are meant to feel, isn't it? With the uncertainty all bubbling up inside and making everything whirl about.
andhiswife: (smile - distant)

[ Greta can't help a faint, bemused smile. There are worse attitudes to have when you're freshly displaced, though she hopes it isn't just a prelude to crushing disappointment. They can't all handle things as well as the Balladeer. ]

A bit of both, I think. There are lots of wonderful things here, but the city does have a tendency to... act up, sometimes. Not too terribly often, though.

I'm Greta. Have you been here long?

I'm Anne. Anne Shirley. It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am. And I don't think I've been here very long, but it's difficult to tell. You see, I was imagining before I arrived and I'm not sure I can tell precisely where the two things separate.

andhiswife: (smile - pensive)

[personal profile] andhiswife 2017-09-15 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Likewise.

And I see. Well, you're not imagining things now; this is all quite real. It's rather different to where I come from -- I don't know that I ever would have imagined buildings as tall as these, or cars -- but you do get used to it.

How sad. If I stay here I hope I never get used to it.

[ Greta blinks, both surprised and rather charmed by the sentiment. ]

That's the spirit. And if you need a place to stay, I work at a place for children like you -- who aren't from here, or don't have anyone else to look after them. I expect you'd like it. The pair who own the place have magic.

[ She doesn't actually twiddle her fingers when she says it, but the finger-twiddling is implied in her tone. ]

[Her manner abruptly goes more subdued.]

Oh. An asylum.

I'm sure it must be very nice though.
andhiswife: (it's not okay)

[personal profile] andhiswife 2017-09-16 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
... Asylum?

[ Oh, dear. She's clearly got the wrong idea. The only asylum Greta knows of is that old ruin outside of town, a far cry from her workplace. ]

No, it's--it's this big, grand house out in the countryside. I half-thought it was a castle the first time I laid eyes on it. And it has a greenhouse and a library and plenty of space...

Look, I'll show you. I don't know if you have phones like this where you come from -- [ she digs hers out and swipes it into wakefulness with her thumb ] -- but this one has a little camera inside it that takes photographs. See?

[ And there's a picture of Green Gardens, the main building looking very grand indeed on the wide lawn. ]

[personal profile] anneofdarrow 2017-09-16 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's still a home for unwanted children though, isn't it? No matter how grand looking? [She looks suspiciously at the photo, too upset to even be awed by the technology.]

I had to go to the orphan asylum in Hopetown after Mr. Hammond died and Mrs. Hammond decided she didn't want me anymore. It was... Well, I know they were trying and that it wasn't their fault there were too many children there. And I'd rather not go to another if it's all the same. Even if it does look like a magical castle.

[ Unwanted is a rather harsh term for it, and Greta has her mouth open, ready to start defending her employers' motivations. When Anne explains herself, though, she ends up letting out a silent breath, instead. ]

I'm sorry. That sounds dreadful. [ Not that Anne's said anything explicitly damning about the asylum, but plenty is implied. Being sent packing by a guardian is awful enough on its own, and Anne's lack of enthusiasm -- when she'd seemed all but made of the stuff not two minutes ago -- speaks volumes. ]

But look. [ She rests a hand on the girl's shoulder. ] No one at the Gardens is unwanted. Simon, one of the owners, grew up in something rather like your asylum, too. He wanted to build someplace better, so no one else would have to go through the same thing. And it is nicer than Darrow's Home for Children, which is where people usually end up.

[ She pauses a moment, wondering if this is a bad idea, then barrels on ahead, anyway. ]

Though if you really don't like the look of the place, I've... well, I've come into a house, recently. It belonged to some friends of mine who went back home. There's plenty of room. More than I really know what to do with, if I'm being honest.

Hullo. Just get here, then, did you?

I think so. But where is here?

This place is called Darrow, at least, that is what I have been told. There is no country it is in, nor anything outside it to put it on a map; but it brings folk here from all sorts of countries and places.

Like me. And you, I expect.
I'm Bran.

I'm Anne Shirley.

Darrow isn't much of a name is it? Not for a place like this. It deserves something much better, something bigger. Something encompassing and inspiring.

I suppose it is a humble name for a place that can pluck you right from home. But you never know, do you, with names. Sometimes a little name can hide something grand.

And humble's better, sometimes, than too proud to bend.

What sort of name would you give it?

I don't know yet. It will take a great deal of contemplation and deep, deep thought. Sometimes the right names for things take days or even weeks to make themselves known.

You're a funny sort of girl, you know? But then I never do like ordinary people very much.

Do you often contemplate the right names for things, then?

[ She walks up to the girl, eyes bright, and waves. Her big fluffy dog woofs once, tail wagging. The girl doesn't speak, but looks brightly at the girl and waves. ]

Hello! Your dog looks so handsome and personable. He must be very good, I can tell. May I pat him?

[ She nods with a happy smile, then turns to her dog and points at the ground. He sits obediently, even though she hasn't said a word, and pants with a doggie grin. She buries her small hand into his thick fur and looks at the girl encouragingly. ]

Thank you very much. [She pets Cu appreciatively. He is after all A Very Good Dog.] It's so very clever how you've taught him to sit without needing to say anything. Like a hero in a story I read who could call his horse with naught but a sharp, clear whistle.
